Centralizing web design and development for one of the largest universities in the U.S.
Overview
Arizona State University, one of the largest Universities in the United States, maintains hundreds of websites across departments, interests and partnerships. The effort of maintaining all of these sites in different departments along with the cost of decentralized development had become unsustainable. ASU tasked Valocity with helping them bring together a unified set of designs, using their brand guidelines as well as building a baseline for new sites leveraging a new standardized Drupal distribution on Pantheon.
Our Approach
The ASU sites were using a dated version of Drupal that is not componentized. Our role was to create a modular design and then map all the content and functionality to the new component-driven solution. From there, our team began to build a standardized, reusable component library for ASU and to build sites including Alumni, CISA, Veteran Engagement, Supernatural Magazine, Employees and others leveraging the new platform. Our team worked closely with the Web leadership at ASU to build a new standard for the design and development efforts within the University that will simplify upgrades, streamline maintenance while increasing quality and usability for both end users and internal authors.
